After green hurdle, stamp duty blow to Noida flat buyers

If the long wait for environmental clearance for their flats wasn't bad enough, nearly 30,000 homebuyers in Noida now face significant cost escalations when they register these properties.

The Uttar Pradesh stamps and registration department has said it will collect stamp duty for registry of flats at prevailing rates after the Centre notifies the eco-sensitive zone around the Okhla-Bird-Sanctuary.

The state government has until February-end to file affidavits to the NGT to request any final modifications to the draft order — mostly technical matters such as type of LED lights that can be used within the eco-zone — after which it has to send the order to the Union environment-ministry.
